Designed by Pininfarina, the 612 Scaglietti was born with the idea of churning out a well-balanced car, equipped with a front engine and rear-wheel drive, in full sports berlinetta style, while trying to guarantee dynamic and exciting behavior.
The cockpit, capable of accommodating four seats, is equipped with kits and comfort, thus ensuring a totally innovative quality of life on board.
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, officially launched in 2004, is not a simple 2+2, but is the result of an ambitious project, a concept carried out with the idea of providing something never seen before, all honoring Sergio Scaglietti Modenese coachbuilder who created some of the most famous models of the Cavallino between the 1950s and 1960s.
The glorious and luxurious past of the Prancing Horse is also honored on the 612 Scaglietti, a model with unique and refined characteristics. The attention that Ferrari has always supplied to the GT sector, it is particularly well known: with the release of the 166 Inter in 1948, the era of the 2+2, four-seater two-door, intriguing driving and comfortable interiors begins. From '48 onwards there was a succession of 2+2 successes, and the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was no exception.
The numerical code 612 refers to the technical characteristics of the engine: 6 indicates the displacement (5748 cubic centimeters rounded), 12 is the number of engine cylinders. The 612 Scaglietti has taken that refined elegance typical of its ancestors, developing a sporty character that is also ideal for long journeys. The perfect balance between dynamism and comfort is the distinctive trait of the 612, which from the outside could be defined as a front-engined, rear-wheel drive Coupé, but which has a spacious cabin inside, ideal for accommodating four people.
The chassis, body and bodywork are entirely made of aluminum, thus ensuring lightness and high performance for the car on the road and when braking. The flawless external structure has a powerful V12 engine inside (the result of thirty years of work), equipped with Fourty eight valves, which with its 540 hp at 7.250 rpm allows you to reach a top speed of 320 km/h.
But the real technical revolution signed by Ferrari consists in the electrochromic panoramic roof, with three transparency filtering settings, which gives the four passengers the feeling of traveling in the open sky. Life on board the 612 Scaglietti is made even more enjoyable thanks to the many cutting-edge technologies: the two DIN radio navigation system guarantees excellent acoustics inside the car; the Hard Disk Drive has a memory of 30 GB, and allows you to select the music according to the preferences set initially; the video screen inside, as well as for navigation and audio, can also be used to receive some national television channels. Inside there is also an air conditioner.
From the aggressive and decisive exterior to the refined, comfortable and pompous interior.
The 612 Scaglietti guarantees sensational driving sensations, thanks to its sophisticated technology, but it is also a car designed to ensure comfort and facilities for passengers during long journeys: the arrangement of the passenger compartment has made it possible to insert four seats in one room spacious and elegant, thus allowing anyone to enter or exit the 612 comfortably.
All this derives from the particular hinging of the doors, which move outwards during rotation, and from the easy entry-exit electric control device, which affects the steering wheel and the two front seats. The luggage compartment is also remarkably spacious, which can accommodate a 6-piece suitcase set, expressly made by Ferrari.
The quality of the craftsmanship and materials lead to appreciate even more every little detail of the interior of the 612. The finishes are completely customizable and it is possible to choose different types of dashboard inserts, seat and side panel packaging.
The dashboard cross member is available in three different configurations: light aluminum, burnished aluminum or saddled, and it is up to the customer to choose it. Seats and panels can be combined and customized, according to your tastes, choosing either a sporty style or pointing in a more refined direction.
The full-grain natural leathers are characterized by a soft and warm hand, available in twelve shades, and thanks to some measured and natural production treatments, their softness and elasticity are enhanced, making the surface appearance and tactile rendering even more pleasant.
The functional elements inserted on the interiors are in the same color as the chosen materials, such as the beltstone-on-tone safety elements or the aluminum technical elements of the dashboard, panels and seats. The details become elements with a decorative function, such as the aluminum found in the dashboard cross member, in the block of the air vents, in the climate control controls, in the electrochromic roof control rheostat, in the F1 A gearshift levers, in the pedals and in the passenger footrest.
The trims on the doors can also be combined with the interior, and follow the lines of the dashboard cross member, which can be burnished or in light aluminum.
The transmission of the 612 Scaglietti, according to the transaxle architecture, includes the rear gearbox group in block with the differential, with bevel gear and self-locking differential in the same fusion.
The scheme is six-speed with multi-cone synchronizers.
The differential is self-locking with differentiated calibrations of twenty five percent in pull and forty five percent in release, all to provide the maximum balance between traction and stability in all conditions. The Formula 1 gearbox distinguishes all Ferrari cars, and its application on the 612 Scaglietti looks perfect. Thanks to F1-SuperFast, the shifting time drops to one hundred milliseconds, allowing the driver to experience a decidedly more performance, sporty and adrenaline-fueled drive, without compromising the comfort experienced during a normal daily drive, where the shifting strategy is managed by the program controlled by Sofast3.
The F1 gearshift mode can be converted into SPORT, as well as from the lever, also through the F1-S button on the Formula 1 control panel, allowing the car to be used in two further interchangeable combinations: changed to SPORT with the lever positioned in COMFORT, or changed to NORMAL with the lever set to SPORT mode.
On 21 June 2007, to celebrate the manufacturer's sixtieth anniversary, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Sessanta was presented on the Fiorano circuit. This new version, which counted only 60 models, had a panoramic glass roof, a two-tone livery and interior finishes even more precious and refined than the 2004 version.
