Ferrari 430 Scuderia, the car born thanks to the precious advice provided by Michael Schumacher



The 430 Scuderia was born with the idea of ​​achieving superior performance and dynamics compared to the 430 version of 2004. To achieve this result, the Cavallino engineers make several changes inside and outside the car, which can stand out from the others thanks to its unmistakable design, while preserving the stylistic features typical of the F430 coupé.


Like the model that precedes it, the 430 Scuderia can count on a series of technologies, such as the F1-SuperFast2 gearbox (the latest evolution of the Formula 1 gearbox applied to all Ferrari models), the E-Diff2, F1 Trac, CST and Manettino Racing. A decisive innovation of this model, presented by Ferrari in 2007, consists in its smooth shape, which increases its aerodynamic performance, making the most of the new performance potential designed for this prototype.



The aesthetics of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia boasts the particular use of a new livery characterized by some gray sections, placed in specific sections, such as the central wing of the bumper, the headlight units and the wheels. The same shade of gray traces the typical stripes that run along the body of the car, from the bonnet to the tail, giving the car a sportier appearance.


Michael Schumacher, during the development phase, will test the 430 Scuderia for a long time, meticulously applying the same criteria that for years have made it unique on the tracks: the German driver, seven times World Champion, collaborates closely with the Ferrari engineers, giving his very important contribution, indispensable for the creation of single-seaters like the F2002 and F2004.



The 430 Scuderia can boast all the ingredients necessary to immediately become an incredibly performing machine: it is light and powerful, two essential aspects for providing level performance, without affecting in any way comfort and ergonomics, with an incredible weight ratio. / power, while the aerodynamics are able to find progressive efficiency in the ground effect as a function of speed, and prompt and powerful braking is ensured by carbon-ceramic calipers and discs.


But, above all, the driver has the possibility to intervene on the trim and driveability adjustments through the small lever on the steering wheel. For the seven-time World Champion, the work on the throttle and the steering wheel controls, in close connection with the engineers and electronics, is one of the reasons for his extraordinary success in racing.


The development of Ferrari Formula 1 steering wheels in recent years has had, again under the suggestion of Schumacher, the main guideline.



For this reason, seeing Schumacher busy on the old Nürburgring at the wheel of the 430 Scuderia, it is easy to understand what he is looking for in the continuous and methodical adjustments of the control that coordinates shift times, traction control, suspension absorption and stability. Thanks to this maniacal work of the highest professional value, the model can boast the unparalleled sensitivity of such a phenomenon in its development.


An experience that becomes, consequently, a heritage shared by all.


In defining the exterior style, and the integration between aerodynamics and design, it allows to increase efficiency compared to the F430, increasing the overall downforce values ​​while maintaining the aerodynamic drag values.


The development takes place mainly in the Ferrari wind tunnel, thanks to specific studies conducted on modular models in 1:3 scale.


After trying multiple configurations through numerous track tests, the final one is optimized in every detail.


The new shape of the rear diffuser allows for both a reduction in resistance and an increase in vertical load. The greater effectiveness of the new rear diffuser is guaranteed by the specific nolder on the bonnet and by the air vents, which go from the wheel arch to the rear bumper, generating the washing effect (patent of the Base Bleed developed by Ferrari in the FXX project) of the overpressure in the wheel compartment.


The new sill allows for a more uniform pressure distribution on the bottom, leading to a greater vertical load distributed evenly between the front and rear area. In this configuration, the shapes of the 430 Scuderia contribute to an increase in vertical downforce, which reaches the value of 75 kg at 150 km/h, and even exceeds 300 kg at maximum speed.

The concept of the 430 Scuderia, and the increased performance and dynamics qualities, require a reinterpretation of numerous style elements of the exterior and interior, since the aim is to characterize a model thatwas born following in the footsteps of the F430 project, seeking through style those requirements of aerodynamic efficiency typical of a car designed to give passengers the highest performance.


To increase the downforce values, the 430 Scuderia can count on more generously designed and highly distinctive front vents, closed by a large mesh metal grille. The work in the wind tunnel redefines the lower profile of the bumper and the central wing, causing an increase in the downforce values ​​required by the project.


Also new is the shape of the side vents of the radiators, also with larger dimensions. The car, created to be extremely compact, seen from the side, immediately brings to notice its lowered stance, exactly fifteen centimeters less than the F430, equipped with side skirts, with a revised profile with increased engine compartment air inlets and new wheels with a functional design and light.



The rear is also subjected to an in-depth study, where the accentuated profile nolder and the completely redesigned extractor slide allow for increased efficiency, balancing the downforce produced by the new design of the front.


The bumper is also new, housing the high exhausts already widely tested on the prototype designed for the Ferrari Challenge races. The careful and in-depth search for lightness leads to a wide use of carbon fiber, used for the construction of particular elements of the car, such as the engine lung, the bulkheads and the filter boxes, the rear-view mirrors, and other elements of the car.
